VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Be Radical! Join the fight against addiction!

Why I volunteer

The reasons are many-fold.  We have a world that is overwhelmed by addictions.  Most of us have at least one or two, and struggling to overcome those addictions is really tough if we are trying to do it on our own.  We need the support of God and a support team to help us in our efforts.

Hope Is Alive is a superior program that leads an individual into a deepening relationship with God and an accountability group of supportive friends to help when times get rough.  I learned about the program by sitting at a table at one of the HIA Inspiring Luncheons a couple of years ago, and I was blown away by the stories that I heard that day.  As a result, I took what I learned back to my Sunday school class and said, “Let’s get involved and sponsor one of the houses!”  My class, Outward Bounds, at New Covenant Church, joyfully responded.  Now we provide cleaning supplies once a month, host a meal for our house once a quarter, and perhaps most important of all, we pray for each of the residents of our house by name on a weekly basis.  Several of the residents have visited our class and two attend class on a weekly basis.  I greatly respect the dedication and hard work of each of these men and am so pleased to include them in my family of friends.

Ways to

get involved

There are many ways for you to get involved, ranging from one-time serve opportunities to ongoing opportunities.

A vital aspect of the Hope is Alive program is the community found through our Sunday night meetings. Residents gather to share a meal, hear a message, pray, and prepare for the beginning of the week. Join us by providing a meal for the residents and stay for a time of fellowship.

On Sunday evenings, residents gather to share a meal, spend time in fellowship, and listen as someone from the community shares their experience, strength, and hope. Men and women are needed to share their story.

Join the HIA residents in the Spring or Fall as they beautify their homes through landscaping.

Be part of a small group Bible Study weekly on Mondays from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Some residents do not have a driver’s license or a car. Residents help each other by carpooling to and from work. You can help by providing rides even one-way on a weekly basis for a short time!

Do you have a small group or Sunday School class and want to adopt a home?  Here are several ways to engage:

  • First, choose your length of commitment (6 months, 1 year, 18 months or 2 years)
  • Then select your service of choice:
    • Select 2-3 items you will provide each month (cleaning supplies,
      paper goods, etc.)
    • Bring a meal for your home once a quarter
    • Commit to pray for the residents in your home by name

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

When they say “A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words” this picture encapsulates that saying for me. When I look at this picture the one word that first comes to my mind is Freedom. I can say freedom because I know many of these men and I know their stories.

Over a year ago, after starting to support HIA personally, I brought the idea to my Men’s Group about supporting a HIA home on a monthly basis. All agreed and we begin the incredible journey of supporting and doing life with the men of H3 and getting to know the men of the HQ home as well.

The whole group looks forward to our Quarterly Men’s Bible Study at H3 where we get to supply them with a meal and take part in a Bible Study. There’s honesty, transparency, the need to be real and best of all support going both ways. We’ve enjoyed walking side by side we these incredible men!
